Maternal Child Health Care and the Family Planning Clinic provides preventive, promotive, and curative services for the whole family. The Tenwek Hospital MCH Clinic is committed to enhancing the health of mothers and children below 18 years. Services offered by the MCH Clinic include:

The Comprehensive Care Clinic provides compassionate care to all patients with chronic medical conditions, specializing in the physical, spiritual and emotional care of those we see. Within the Comprehensive Care Clinic we have the following sub-clinics:

HIV/AIDS Clinic

The HIV/AIDS clinic works round the clock to encourage our patients to get tested in order to plan for their lives. Those identified as living positively with the diseases are then empowered and educated to sustain a healthy lifestyle while those who are HIV negative are encouraged to continue practicing a lifestyle that will help them prevent contraction of the virus. Services offered by the clinic include:

• Provision of self- initiated testing, couples testing and counselling
• Prevention care
• Cervical cancer screening and treatment
• Research
• Nutritional Care
• Health education
• Involvement in support groups &
• Spiritual care

Diabetes & Hypertension Clinic

Our diabetes and hypertensive clinic was established to provide specialized care and education in the management of Diabetes and Hypertension. The team works closely with our patients to minimize the risk of development of diabetes and hypertension related complications. Services offered in the clinic include:

• Regular monitoring of the patients
• Nutrition counselling
• Foot care
• Referral to other clinics like the surgical clinic and ophthalmology clinic

The Surgical outpatient Clinic is the route through which all non-emergency surgical procedures are booked in. The clinic is run by a team of well- trained surgical consultants and residents who review patient pre-operation and post operation. It is through the SOPC clinic that our patients are given surgery dates and review dates.

The OB/GYN Clinic runs every Wednesday from 8:00am to 5:00pm at the MCH Building. It is through the clinic that the following services are rendered:

• Booking for elective CS
• Fertility clinic
• Cervical cancer screening
• Colposcopy
• Hysterectomy
• Fibroid removal
• Removal of adnexal masses and tubal ligation

Our chest clinic offers expert care in allergy and asthma management, airway disease detection and treatment and in the identification and treatment of tuberculosis. The team works closely with the Ministry of Health to provide counselling for HAART and TB medication or screening.

Our team of specialists work to evaluate, diagnose and treat conditions of the heart utilizing advanced techniques and technologies. The clinic runs every Monday to Friday from 8am- 5pm and they provide the following services:

• Echo cardiogram imaging
• Cardiac follow ups
• Nutritional counselling
• Schedule cardiac surgeries

The Endoscopy Clinic performs a wide range of endoscopic procedures which allows medics to diagnose and treat gastrointestinal disorders such as peptic ulcers, cancers, tumors, inflammation and blockages of the bile ducts due to stones. The clinic runs every Monday to Friday from 8am- 5pm and they provide the following services:

• Bile duct stones
• Bile duct strictures
• Bleeding from peptic ulcers
• Chronic gastrointestinal bleeding of unknown cause
• Colon and Esophageal cancer
• Gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD)

The orthopedic clinic run every Monday to Thursday from 8am to 5pm and is managed by a team of qualified consultants, residents & medics, clinical officers and nurses. Using accurate results from X-Ray and CT Scan imaging, the clinic provides the following specialized services:

• Injury Management – both accident and sport injuries
• Degenerative muscle management
• Knee & back pain management
• Arthritis
• Prosthetics fitting and fabrication
• Sales of wheelchairs at subsidized prices

The Orthopedic Clinic runs a Physiotherapy Clinic every Friday from 8am to 5pm. Key services offered include:

• Orthopedic rehab – mobilization, ROM, strengthening
• Pain management
• Cerebral palsy support

All patients with positive results for cancer are enrolled into our Oncology Clinic where we offer counselling and education for patients and family members, nutritional advice and spiritual mentorship. Those in the advanced stages are recruited in our palliative care unit for personalized pain relief and support.

We are in the process of establishing a chemotherapy section and will let you know once all plans are completed.

The Tenwek Hospital Palliative Care Unit provides care to terminally ill patients and additional supportive services to their families. Physical, social, spiritual and emotional care is provided during the late stages of an illness, during the end of life process and during the bereavement period. Services offered include:

• Administration of medicine that prevent and relieve pain and other distressing symptoms
• Supplemental nutrition and vitamins
• Psychological and spiritual support
• Bereavement counseling and orphan care planning

For patients who have an urgent need to be seen by the doctors yet they are in stable and non-critical condition, we can fast track diagnosis and treatment through our Fast Track Clinic. The registration fee is standardized at Ksh 2,000 per consultation and the service allows you to get fast-tracked services at the Laboratory, Radiology, Pharmacy and at the outpatient clinical consultation areas.
